Team from GA - January 2008

“Precision at work” seemed to be the motto of the team from First United Methodist Church in Gainesville, GA that visited Emmanuel this January. The 25 team members proofed accuracy examining more than 150 children in our clinic, helping with office work, and pouring concrete on our current construction site.
The medical division of the team tackled the enormous challenge of checking on the health of as many children as possible. This task kept four nurses, three doctors, and numerous assistants busy for the whole week. The medical staff came well prepared, bringing a doctor from El Salvador and a Spanish-speaking nurse to rule-out misunderstandings. Even though many of the older children had been examined for the first time the doctors found Emmanuel’s children in a good medical condition. According to Dr. Mike Neloney a lot of improvements have been made concerning hygiene, the prevention of infections and the children’s general health.
Apart from medical work the team members prepared a concrete foundation for a new pavilion and laundry facilities at Emmanuel’s current construction site.
Not only did the clinic see many first-timers but also did many team members visit Emmanuel for their first time. Just like the “veterans” they were impressed with the children’s worship and their strong faith in God as thirteen-year-old Grace reflected.
Apart from “Precision at work” the team also showed “love at work” doing projects with Emmanuel’s boys and girls and giving them much-needed affection.
