Vocational training

Posted: September 17th, 2007 @ 12:25pm

Our youth is growing and maturing as time goes by. It is amazing to see how so many of them have transformed from kids to youth. Some of them we have followed from their toddler years and others are recent arrivals already in the turmoil of their teens.
As some of them finish school and are beginning to look towards future goals, the need for vocational training becomes clear.
We have spent time this summer investigating solid options, requirements and admission exams in different areas such as nursing school, carpentry, mechanics, business administration and medical school. We hope to see some of our youth off in these areas within the next six months.
We have also been blessed with another 2 full scholarships at the Portantorchas Missionary School in Costa Rica (www.portantorchas.org) where Dunia and Felipe are currently studying English, missions and leadership.
As a new thing here at Emmanuel some of the older boys now have the opportunity to learn how to make construction blocks. Equipment is in place and production has already begun. In the woodshop a skilled carpenter is working with a group of boys daily and our sewing workshop has been completely remodeled and better equipped. As earlier years we also still offer Bakery, Mechanics and Computer.
